Mickie Ainsworth Memorial Trophy and Award: Each year the committee selects the section to which this award will apply. The award comprises a trophy and a £200 cash prize. For 2018 the committee has decided the award will go to the winner of the Fiddle Group Competition (See below).

Schedule: The schedule of Competitions on the day of the Festival showing venues and times will be published here in mid-October.

N.B. The committee may deem there are insufficient entries to run a particular section in which case the section will be cancelled and entry fees refunded.

Saturday competitions

Competitions start in the Salutation Hotel and St Matthews Church at 9.00 a.m. Come along and listen to the competitions and enjoy the wonderful music. An all day ticket, which can be purchased on the day at the Salutation Hotel and St Matthews Church will cost you £8.50. This also includes entry to the Grand Finale. An excellent day out.



Festival Rules

1. Traditional signifies that tunes must be played in the Scottish idiom

2. Competitors are permitted to compete more than once in a group class provided a different instrument is played on each occasion.

3. Open Scottish Trio must consist of accordion, fiddle and one of the following instruments:
- Piano
- Double Bass
- Guitar
- Bass Guitar

4. Scottish Dance Band must consist of a minimum of 5 players and must include accordion and fiddle. Electronic piano (with electronic bass if required) may be used. Tunes performed must be by the nominated composer/s.

5. No electronic devices are permitted in any section except for electronic piano and bass guitar.

6. Own Composition should be performed on accordion or fiddle. One copy of the tune must be forwarded 1 week prior to the event. Piano accompaniment is permitted but ensembles are not.

7. Piano accompaniment is permitted in all fiddle solo classes, but no official accompanist will be provided.

8. Photography, audio recording or video recording during any competition or performance is strictly forbidden.

9. Unless unavoidably prevented from doing so, competitors must report to play in the correct position on the programme. Failure to do so can result in disqualification.

10. In all cases the adjudicator’s decision is final.

11. Entries submitted after the entry closing date may only be accepted at the discretion of the organisers.

12. Musette Accordion Solo and World Music Accordion Solo – only one piece of music may be played within the time limit.

13. A competitor must not play the same piece of music in both Musette Accordion Solo and World Music Accordion Solo section.

14. CD backing tracks for the Musette Accordion Solo should be provided on the day. E.G. Suitable Valse Musette backing tracks may be purchased at: www.karaoke-musette.com or www.karaoke-playback-francais.com/fr/accordeon-musette

15. Fiddle Group must consist of a minimum of 5 players and a maximum of 10 players. A minimum of 3 fiddles must be included in the group. No official accompanist will be provided. Any 3 of the following accompaniments are permitted:
- Piano
- Harmony Accordion
- Electric Piano (with electronic bass if required)
- Double Bass
- Bass Guitar

16. Junior Scottish Trio must include accordion and/or fiddle plus any other instrument/s. However, two of each instrument may be included (E.G. 2 Accordions and Piano, 2 Fiddle and Accordion etc.)

17. Junior Girls Traditional Accordion Solo – The Jimmy Stevens Salver will be awarded to the female competitor with the highest mark competing in the All Scotland Junior Traditional Accordion Solo Championship.

18. Senior Ladies Traditional Accordion Solo – The Margaret Hendry Salver will be awarded to the female competitor with the highest mark competing in the All Scotland Senior Traditional Accordion Solo Championship.
