Festival Rules

  1. Traditional signifies that tunes must be played in the Scottish idiom.
  2. Players will only be permitted to compete more than once in any class provided that a different instrument is played on each occasion.
  3. Trios will consist of accordion, fiddle and one of the following: piano, double bass, guitar, bass guitar.
  4. Bands will consist of four to six players and must include accordion & fiddle.
  5. No electronic devices are permitted in any section except for the pre-set electronic pianos provided by the Festival where applicable.
  6. Own composition class is open to competitors of any age and any instrument. One copy of the tune must be forwarded with the entry form. Piano accompaniment is permitted but ensembles are not
  7. Piano accompaniment is permitted for all solo fiddle classes, but no official accompanist will be provided.
  8. Photography, audio recording or video recording during any competition or performance is strictly forbidden.
  9. All competitors in the Classical sections (not Continental) are required to submit one original copy of their chosen piece for the use of the adjudicator. Failure to do so can result in disqualification.
  10. Unless unavoidably prevented from doing so, competitors must report to play in the correct position on the programme. Failure to do so can result in disqualification.
  11. In all cases the adjudicator's decision is final.
  12. Entries submitted after the entry closing date may only be accepted at the discretion of the organisers.
  13. In Classical and Continental Sections only one piece of music may be played within the time limit
  14. A competitor must not play the same piece of music in both a Classical and Continental section.
